Biography
Robert Atoyan
Born on November 29th, 1935 in town of Goris, Armenian SSR, Dr. Atoyan, has been a member of the National Academy Of
Sciences of Republic
of Armenia since
1986, and has held the position of the director of YerACSSRI
since 1992 to 2009.
In 1958 he has graduated from Yerevan Polytechnic
Institute (now renamed to State Engineering University of Armenia). In
1974, he has received Masters Degree in Engineering, and in 1979 became a
PhD. In 1983 he was granted a status of a professor.
Robert Atoyan’s scientific work, and his entire life are linked to YerACSSRI, where he started his career as a technician
(in 1958), and subsequently became a Deputy Director (1974 – 1992). Starting
in 1980, he assumed part-time position of a professor at the Department of
Electronics of the State Engineering University of Armenia, and served as
the Head of the department. In his new role, he has supervised the graduation
of six graduate students, who were awarded Master Degrees, and four
postgraduate students, who were awarded PhDs.
His main scientific work is dedicated to the
creation of Special Purpose Computing Systems and Distributed Automated
Control Systems (ACS). He has more than 120 presented scientific works
dedicated to these subjects, which include articles (dedicated to the
problems of Radio Electronics), scientific reports, presentations and
lectures. The hardware and software systems created under his supervision,
are currently deployed as part of some mission-critical Special Purpose
ACS.
For these accomplishments the YerACSSRI
was awarded the Labor Red Banner Medal, and some of the employees were
awarded the honors and medals of the Union
and the Republic.
R. Atoyan was awarded honors and medals of former
USSR,
government honors and medals of Armenian SSR. He is a laureate of Lenin and
Armenian SSR Government Awards.
He is a current member of the International Informatization Academy.
Since 1980 he has been a member and a chair of councils in charge of
awarding scientific degrees.
